Life update

The one thing I can count on these days is that nothing stays the same. Life has been a constant flux of change and I have to confess that the constant motion and upheaval suits me. It keeps my mind occupied, it prevents me from feeling like I’m sitting stagnating, and I love the unpredictability of things because it leads me to believe that anything is possible. At times, often in the quiet moments or late at night, I have moments of panic. I’m not on the approved life trajectory. I’ll hit 35 this year and while my peers are settling into well established careers and planning for retirement, I’m here making coffee and floating along with only a hazy life plan sketched out – and it never looks the same from one month to the next. But maybe that’s just my road to travel. I never wanted the sane, well-trod route. I’ve always craved the little bit different, the quirky and off the wall. I feel my best when I’m not trying to pigeon-hole myself into places I don’t belong. I’m learning to make decisions based on what I need and want and it’s the best thing I’ve ever done. I avoid people who don’t understand or disapprove and keep on moving forward. So here’s what’s happened over the past few months:

– i worked for a few weeks as a stablehand and lived with Nat in a barn. That didn’t work out so I moved back into my house and have recently put it up for sale.

– I got a part-time job as a barista in a local coffee shop. It’s a job I’ve always wanted to try and now I know how to whip up a mean mocha or frappe or just about any other coffee beverage you can think up. I adore knowing all this because coffee is my one true love.

– I’ll be starting my master’s degree in about a month (freaking out about this. Excited/terrified)

– I switched my daughter to another school, for a variety of reasons. I feel so good about this decision and it’s tsken a load off of my mind.

– I just landed a job as a car porter at a dealership and should start in about a week. My personal goal is to work as many jobs as possible and I’ve quite a variety already.

– my step-son moved in with me and I am so happy to have my little family. I feel like the giant hole in my life is partially filled back in.

– I’ve been reading. A lot. Ok that’s nothing new but I’ve devoured some truly fabulous books lately. My recent favorites have been “Blue Plate Special” by Kate….can’t remember her last name. But she’s  someone I would love to meet and sit down and talk to for hours. Second fave is one I’m reading now. “The Bean Trees” by Barbara Kingsolver. She’s a genius writer and I remain in awe of her literary skills.

And I think that’s about it! Check back in next months for a new update.
